Ideas Beyond Borders is launching a national Friends of IBB Leadership Council consisting of dedicated volunteers committed to building a community of passionate and generous leaders across the country. Initial markets will include New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, DC.

Council members are asked to serve in a leadership capacity by making a meaningful annual contribution and by helping to build a network of donors who support IBB’s mission of transforming the Middle East through the values of pluralism, democracy, human rights. 

We hope you will consider becoming a founding member of the Leadership Council, and help IBB fulfill its goal of enabling Middle Eastern young adults to transform their societies.


  • Build a community of energetic, passionate and generous supporters in key markets across the country

  • Cultivate and grow donors who can participate in the Friends of Ideas Beyond Borders annual giving society 

  • Engage individuals who will tap their personal and professional circles to grow and steward IBB’s donor base

  • Help IBB identify potential members of its Board of Directors


  • Become a Founding Member of the FIBB Steering Council

  • Recognition at IBB events, online and in event materials

  • Network with members of IBB’s distinguished Board of Directors

  • Receive exclusive invitations to small gatherings with authors

  • Opportunities to hear first-hand from IBB’s frontline translators and community leaders


  • Individuals write or raise $2,500 annually, including a suggested personal gift of $1,500

  • Couples write or raise $5,000 annually, including a suggested personal gift of $2,500

  • Attend and consider hosting regional cultivation and fundraising events

  • Recruit one new Steering Council member each year

the FIBB Leadership council chair

The FIBB Leadership Council Chair is responsible for guiding the growth and well-being of IBB’s annual giving society, known as the Friends of Ideas Beyond Borders. The Chair plays a major role in overseeing volunteer engagement, and is a key partner to staff in meeting annual fund revenue goals and in creating successful events.

Key responsibilities

  • Making a personal gift to the annual fund each year

  • Working closely with IBB’s Managing Director and Director of Development to set and monitor annual fund goals, including gifts, donors and volunteer engagement

  • Recruiting and developing a cadre of active and successful volunteers who in turn recruit, train and engage new volunteers, as well as organize and execute events.

  • Leading monthly FIBB Steering Council meetings

  • Participating in FIBB cultivation events and individual donor meetings

  • Promoting IBB, FIBB and the annual fund, and provide information about IBB’s progress
