Exciting Graduation for the Wikipedia-backed University Translator Program

Celebrities and special guests celebrate the graduations of the rapidly growing University Translator Program, a Wikipedia-backed initiative by Ideas Beyond Beyond Borders.

New York: Ideas Beyond Borders’ University Translator Program develops the translation, professional, and leadership skills of Middle-Eastern university students. This event was the largest and most prestigious class graduation of its kind to date.

The ultimate goal of the program is to generate a new generation of Wikipedia volunteers, passionately committed to growing Wikipedia Arabic into a powerful knowledge engine for everyone in the Middle East and North Africa.

The program offers students a full semester of extracurricular webinars that provide in-depth experience in translating and editing articles, thinking critically about good sources, and learning to lead volunteer communities committed to sharing knowledge. The best students win prizes and the opportunity to advance to leadership positions in the Wikipedia Arabic community.

The University Student Translator Program is part of Ideas Beyond Borders’ flagship House of Wisdom 2.0, the largest multimedia content platform of its kind in the region. The program produces hundreds of original videos along with thousands of translated articles and books each year.

With a 220-strong team of translators, Ideas Beyond Borders have translated more Enlightenment and educational content into Arabic, more than any other organization. All of the content is free and is viewed more than 50 million times per year.

Ideas Beyond Borders works to foster critical thinking, trust in science, and civil rights in the MENA region by making previously inaccessible information freely available to Arabic speakers worldwide. The University Translator Program ensures free information for future generations in the region.
