An Exciting New Partnership with Middle East Broadcasting Networks!
The Middle East Broadcasting Networks Partners with Ideas Beyond Borders to Create Exclusive Video Content.
New partnership is driven by a common mission to provide the Middle East with meaningful and often inaccessible information.
New York, NY, July 09, 2019 --The Middle East Broadcasting Networks (MBN) -- which informs, educates, and empowers audiences throughout the region through Alhurra TV and Radio Sawa -- will create video content based on translations of select articles and books made by Ideas Beyond Borders (IBB).
“We are thrilled to partner with MBN to help make our English-to-Arabic translations even more appealing to people hungry for knowledge,” said Faisal Saeed Al Mutar, founder of IBB. “We have already translated dozens of books, thousands of articles, and millions of words. Video versions will further encourage critical thinking around topics ranging from civil rights to science.”
Video content will be co-branded MBN and “Bayt al Hikma 2.0,” the translation program of Ideas Beyond Borders. Designed to rekindle the region’s “Golden Age” when freedom of speech, open dialogue, and evidence-based science were embraced in the Middle East, the program will now be expressed in multimedia format thanks to the new partnership with MBN.
“I’m very excited by this first step,” said Alberto Fernandez, President of MBN. “Ideas Beyond Borders shares our mission, and has created thought-provoking content we can’t wait to adapt to video and share across our network.” The pilot program will include selected submissions from IBB translations. Distribution will take place across MBN platforms and make otherwise inaccessible content accessible for Arabic speakers globally.
MBN operates and oversees Alhurra Television and Sawa radio. It is financed by the U.S. Government through a grant from the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM), an independent federal agency. The USAGM serves as a firewall to protect the professional independence and integrity of the broadcasters. They present in-depth discussions that are not addressed in the Arabic-language media, such as human rights, freedom of speech, and religion. MBN is also very active online via MBN Digital properties, integrating social media content into its TV and radio content.
Founded by an Iraqi refugee, the mission of IBB is to prevent extremism before it takes root by making the inaccessible accessible, IBB empowers people to retain their cultural identities while pushing against authoritarian censorship, hate, and violence. To date, IBB has reached over 2.4M people through the translation of more than a dozen books including Steven Pinker’s Enlightenment Now, and 1,600 Wikipedia articles covering topics ranging from human rights to physics. IBB also leads grassroots educational programs in post-ISIS territories.
