HOUSE OF WISDOM 2.0

Wikipedia

IBB translates Wikipedia articles on a wide variety of topics, ranging from science to human rights and more. IBB has a huge impact on the availability of Wikipedia Arabic content:

  1. Wikipedia's tracking metrics show that the amount of Wikipedia Arabic content has gone from 19th in early 2019 to 10th in November 2020

  2. IBB has had a direct, measurable influence on this metric, as our translators have collectively published more than 20,000 articles—the equivalent of more than 200 books

  3. In turn, IBB-edited articles have garnered at least 50 million views by Arabic-speaking Wikipedia users

The heart and soul of IBB’s translation effort is our team of professional translators and editors, who collectively produces thousands of high-quality translations of articles every year.IBB is also partnering with the Wikimedia Foundation to launch a pilot program in four universities inside Iraq for the purpose of creating knowledge that enriches Arabic content in Wikipedia, and enhances critical thinking skills among students.“My city of Mosul will be better than before, thanks to the young generation. It will not be possible without the awareness that comes from enlightenment. What I do is really small compared to the chaotic world we live in, but there is no way that is going to stop me. By transferring knowledge into Arabic, I want to prove that we can make the world a better place.”
--Momen Muhammed, University of Mosul student, and participant in IBB’s Iraq University Translator Program
